Cut and Paste Trophy – February 15

The arrival of the new Cut & Paste Trophy thread hints at something wonderful: that a new podcast has been recorded and it’s time to start collecting entries for the next one.

PS – for those new to Pure Poison: What is the Cut & Paste Trophy?It’s no longer really about News Ltd pretending that reader comments on the sites of other media organisations are “articles” which are equivalent, for whinging purposes, with actual articles written by actual staff.

It’s about asking whether moderators at major media sites should be filtering out more than just the merely defamatory. Are there other types of hateful, destructive comments that actually encourage more of the same? And, secondly, about wondering what the comments that a media site receives and chooses to publish tell us about just what kind of journalism they’re selling. What sort of ignorance do they appear to have fostered? Should they be concerned about their audience’s misunderstandings and what it says about how well they fulfill their role as disseminators of knowledge?

Apparently those messages have not yet been received. Let’s see if we can help these media companies out by pointing them to the most disturbing entries in the comments below.

    I sometimes find myself wishing (however unlikely it is) China would hurry up and take-over the world in the hope the first vestige of Western civilization to perish would be the preening posse of PC possers perpetually prowling for pretexts on which to predicate pique.

    this is starting to get old…

    Anyone surprised by Gillard’s deception needs to take a good hard look at themselves. As an alleged member of the Australian Fabian Society, whose MO is gradual introduction of socialism (global government) through deception, this is the real Julia. Pure and simple.

    After all, 10% of the carbon tax will be handed over to the UN climate fund, most likely used to fund their propaganda campaign. She denies this but doesn’t give a straight answer, as usual, when confronted with this question.

    Who is more recist than the aboriginals, indians, pakistanis and all the others that come into our once great country. the ones discriminated against are the white people hard but true. i am so sick and tired of the hand outs given out to minorities. sick of hearing this is our land you owe us. if this truely is a one Australia why do we have aboriginal legal aide, health and legisation why not one for all after all the aboriginal people did so much for our modern Society. – Posted by: George of the jungle 8:41am today
