The many definitions of “editorial independence”

Bad news for those thinking about subscribing to The Australian, according to these remarks it published today:

…just $1200 a person. When you think about it, this is probably the equivalent of a two to four-year subscription to a pay-walled media site. In fact, it would get you 2.9 years’ worth of The Australian’s complete news package.

$1200 for 2.9 years of The Australian. BARGAIN.

Elsewhere in the same article, the amusing conflation of “editorial independence” with “owners telling editors what to print”.

I’m so glad a journalist at Rupert’s Folly had the freedom to write something like that.

Hilariously, on an article that goes to free speech, it’s behind the pay wall. At least the link given hits you with it. I have never tried it before, but I did this time and a google of the headline gave me the full text. Just gotta figure out a way to leave a comment that points this out without paying for it now.
