Finally: a flying car! A biofuel-powered flying car could be ready by 2009, says Tree Hugger. Looking something like the bastard child of a dune buggy and a paraglider, the Parajet Skycar has a range of 180 km running on bioethanol. Designer Giles Cardozo plans to fly the car across the English Channel early next year.

Maldives 2.0. The Maldives is saving up to buy a new homeland in case the one it already has gets wrecked by climate change, the Guardian reports. “The UN forecasts that the seas are likely to rise by up to 59cm by 2100, due to global warming. Most parts of the Maldives are just 1.5m above water. The president said even a “small rise” in sea levels would inundate large parts of the archipelago.”

Bogged down with carbon. Global warming could cause peat bogs to release billions of tons of carbon, reports Science Daily. Higher temperatures could make water tables drop, causing peat to dry up and lose carbon, with the potential for deep bogs to lose 86 percent of their carbon over several centuries.
