Whales get fully beached in Tasmania

80 whales die in Tasmania. About 80 whales died in Tasmania recently after being stranded on remote, jagged rocks, out of reach of rescuers.

Luck of the Irish. The Irish government have announced plans to introduce more than 250,000 electric cars to their roads by 2020, report gas2.0, which would account for 10 per cent of all cars in the country. Under the plan, businesses will be able to claim a 100 per cent tax write-off if they convert their fleet of cars to electric vehicles.

German Chancellor stands up for climate goals. The Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, has urged  the European Union not to sacrifice any of its goals on climate change despite the economic crisis. By 2020, the EU is attempting a 20 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels, to bringing renewable energy use up to 20 per cent, and an overall 20 per cent reduction in energy use.
