Crikey’s pick of the green news for today:
Going nuts. Oak trees in the US aren’t producing acorns this year, the Washington Post reports. No one seems sure of exactly what has caused the shortage, but ridiculously cute little squirrels are going hungry, which is always sad.
The 10 big energy myths. The Guardian looks at some big myths about energy, including that wind power is too unreliable, solar is too expensive and nuclear is cheap.
Government gets it Wong on target announcement. The Rudd government will not adhere to their promise to present their 2020 target for greenhouse emissions to the UN climate talks starting today.
Brazil pledge to cut deforestation. The Brazilian government plan to cut deforestation of the Amazon by up to 70 per cent over the next 40 years, with a reduction of 4.8 billion tons of emissions within the next decade.

Ruth, people have been shot for such atrocious puns. (I wish I’d thought of it.)
Cheers
PS: Is there any hope the Brazilians will keep their word? They never have in the past.
Cheers
Well, dodging environmental promises is a bit of a sport amongst most governments, but at least they have some targets to bring to the UN this week, unlike us.
And that is far from the worst pun I’ve ever put to print, I’m afraid. If loving bad puns is a crime, clap me in the stocks, because I’m guilty as charged.
