[and got called all manner of invectives ...] You can suffer invective, be on the receiving end of invective but you can't be called invectives. Invective is denunciatory language -- i.e. language involving bad names. It is being denounced. The word epithets might have suited you better.

Funny thing is, I made similar discussion on Facebook… and got called all manner of invectives and had friendships ‘deleted’ for daring to say that our floods, as bad as they are/were, are not as dire. Disasters are awful things, but it seems that they don’t count when they occur out of your backyard and in the developing world.
