Crikey Sports moment of the weekend has to go the amazing against all odds victory by the Kiwis over the Kangaroos in the Rugby League World Cup final on Saturday night.
An upset of Bradybury-esque proportions, the Crikey Sports desk was at a loss to understand how Australia allowed the much loved New Zealand community now living in this fine country the sort of of ammunition we really could do without.
But we had a eureka moment this morning. It’s all about the Haka. Don’t mess with the Haka.
Here’s a vid of what happened on Saturday night — notice the Kangaroos walking stand towards the performing Kiwis:
Note to all future Australian teams in any game of any version of Rugby for the rest of history — when the Kiwi’s perform the Haka — look scared, maybe cry a little even but don’t disrespect the Haka.
The Kangaroos found out on Saturday night what happens if you do.
PS: Maybe the New Zealand cricket team, aka the Black Caps, should do the Haka before the Second Test — it can’t hurt.

Hi,
Gee, I hate to nitpick but…
1. The NZ Rugby League team is called the Kiwis, not the All Blacks. (The All Blacks were having their own fun with the haka in Wales on Saturday evening.), and
2. The Australian team’s response to the haka was considered respectful by the Kiwis – the Ausses accepted the challenge and stood up to it – well done.
3. The Kiwis won the game because they played better than the Kangaroos on the night!
