Ricky Ponting has said that the English squad of 16 picked itself.
Have you ever thought about that saying, it really is rather stupid.
And it means that the squad did not want Michael Vaughan.
He is not good enough to warrant a place in England’s pre-ashes training squad of 16.
How is this so?
Do they not know that he is the winner of the 2005 Ashes?
Heretics.
Australia must be favourites now.
Look at the losers and malcontents they have picked before him.
Andrew Strauss (captain) James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravinder Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad Paul Collingwood, Alastair Cook, Andrew Flintoff, Graham Onions, Monty Panesar, Kevin Pietersen, Matt Prior, Adil Rashid, Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann
Ian Bell; that weird little boy who doesn’t make runs.
Ravinder Bopara; a rough Essex lad who didn’t go to a public school.
Tim Bresnan; the portly all rounder who can’t tuck his shirt in.
Graeme Swann; a singer in a terrible pub band.
Ryan Sidebottom; a guy who looks like he should be a drummer in a terrible cover band.
Dreadful.
The England should be ashamed of themselves for not picking a man as wonderfully British as Michael Vaughan.
Think of all the psychological points they could have won by having him in the pre-series training squad of 16.
The poor Poms, always missing the trick.

Regards Ravi Bopara – At least we have people of non-anglo background in our teams
Matthew, and a heap more in state cricket, Usman Khawaja had better get his act together.
Jarrod – I just get a bit sick of this stereotype that the engand cricket team is all public (i,e private) school boys when theyre not – cricket is a great leveller in england and cuts across all the classes and all races in UK something I dont feel the Australian cricket team does. Name me the last aboriginal/asian player to play for Australia? What you have to remember is that most UK peoples exposure to Australia is via the cricket team (my own brother – who hasnt visited here – thinks its a land of blond haired – blue eyed anglo’s).
Matthew, It’s funny you say cricket is a great leveller in the UK, cause most of the people I chat to over here say the game is still way too middle and upper class for their liking. England still has more Public/Private players in this current team than Australia has. Alistair Cook is their current FEC. This is a tongue and cheek piece, like mine was, from the Guardian today.
Australia has had Katich (croatia) and Krejza (polish) of recent times, not to mention Kasprowicz (Italian from memory), and Andrew Symonds (everywhere). Hauritz is probably not Anglo Saxon, Watson is probably an alien. Jason Gillespie and Ryan Campbell were the last two aboriginals to play for Australia, and as far as Asians go, I would say Dav Whatmore, but I maybe wrong on that one. The great Richard Chee Quee played for NSWales, and maybe Australia A, but was probably a bit too inconsistent for national duty, although I would have picked him just because he was a joy to watch.
On a personal note the best players I grew up playing with were Italian, Indian, Bangladeshi, and Sri Lankan. Everyone one of them could have played top level grade cricket, at least, only one of them tried it.
I would love for their to be more colour in the Australian team, but with one Aboriginal and one Pakistani in first class cricket, it isn’t going to happen in a hurry.
