News to quit NRL? Is this good for the game?

According to the SMH’s Roy Masters this morning, News Ltd is considering exiting its part ownership of the game.

News’ interest in League has been a source of much debate over the years. Its Super League ventures had tragic consequences (I still have my Western Red jersey — sob) but the support (via News’ media empire) is of course a massive boon to the game.

C’mon NRL fans (I’m asking you John Ryan :) ) — what are your thoughts? Would the NRL thrive without the influence of News Ltd?

Well as a member of the Perth Bulldogz, GF runners up,I can say the NEWs getting out will remove the massive conflict of interest the NEWS and the NRL over both Pay and FTA TV we may even manage to get the Storm games shown on TV live. If they form a commission without John Howard anywhere near it, and keep the Storm we should be able to negotiate a deal equal with the AFL poseurs and cover up merchants.
Not sure what the Tele will find to write about and the SMH will continue to tolerate League, thought they think we are heathens, and with a bit of luck your Reds jumper might be of use again sooner than you think

Hi wonder if you can tell me why the WA media and my be Melbourne and SA are running dead on the Fevola,it is unmentionable on Radio here only in very general terms one bloke says it a storm in a teacup.
Considering that the self same media dined out on Rugby League over the past year, they are very quite about the AFL silence on the matter, Magnay in the SMH nailed it pretty well on Offsiders and today in a column.

I think that the past decade has showed that Rugby League can’t die, so I don’t see how News leaving will change anything.

    Dear John

Perhaps the allegations involving a herald sun journalist that have come to light in the last couple of days might be a hint. You know that the last thing to be reported involves themselves.

For example how did Clinton Grybas die? Never reported, hinted at but then respect that is never shown to any other family was shown and it was unreported.
