Welcome to The Wellhead

Welcome to The Wellhead, the blog of CSG: Behind The Seams.

The Wellhead hopes to cover developments in the Coal Seam Gas debate as they happen.  As well as links and commentary, we’ll also feature  original reporting.

To start the discussion, here’s something that is not widely appreciated: US natural gas prices are very low at the moment, due to the expansion of another form of unconventional gas production: shale gas.  Consequently, the USA is likely to become a net exporter of gas.

The effect on world gas prices, and the Queensland CSG rush, remains to be seen.

Robert, this article suggests that prices will rise again in 2013, but by how much is not clear.

I imagine the major CSG companies operating here would have forward contracts, but you’d need to be a gas analyst to have any idea what’s going to happen.
