EP: The Greens polled higher in the Lower House - around 8% of the vote overall. No doubt the very large number of minor candidates and independents on the Upper House ballot paper siphoned off a bit of the vote which would otherwise have gone to the Greens.

What is amazing in SA is that a candidate with disability as the main issue has been elected. This is a reflection of the difficulties faced by people with disabilitites in the state and the failure to address anything other than by creating red tape and employing more bureaucrats. Whilst charities are taking on a significant load there are a lot of issues in regards to housing, transport, work and recreation that are just not being addressed. People in the disability community are sick of being photo opportunities for politicians while having to smile at the fact that they are poorer and more disadvantaged. The government will certainly take a lot more notice now.

6.6% actually seems like quite a low greens figure. Don't they commonly poll low double digits? I checked the poll numbers over at http://blogs.crikey.com.au/pollytics/ and the greens poll 8.6% in SA, lower than any other state.

Tas seems like no one actually wants to lead a minority government. Maybe quick sensible since both the major parties lost sitting members, meaning a relatively small number of experienced hands with which to fill portfolios.

Agreed Andrew. It's amazing the way the liberals have just gone back to the future to start eating themselves again.

AS for Tassie, anyone who ever thought the Greens would do any deal with the liberals must be on some strange weed.
