If you really dislike Julia Gillard you will see nothing wrong with this picture:
If you are like most of the swinging voters I have observed from behind the one way glass over the years you will be quite turned off by it.
Tony Abbott is running a great risk by associating himself with the small shock-jock led fringe which gathered at Canberra’s Parliament House today.

well Tone’s never really understood the chick vote
“If you really dislike Julia Gillard you will see nothing wrong with this picture”
Wrong. I despise Gillard for her banality, her ignorance of the empirical world (one reason both her policies and their implementation are shambolic), her cynical use of the Left for career advancement (she’s patently Rightwing) and for the dreadful set-piece speeches oozing sentimentality and inexpensive jingoism.
But above all for that awful nasal off-key voice: a thousand fingernails scraping a blackboard.
But how stupid is Abbot to associate himself with a mob of rednecks organised by shockjocks? And it’s not about numbers (“the small shock-jock led fringe”)- that’s an obtuse observation. 20,000 would have made the political impact worse.
The Liberals must realise that to kill off the pointless, socially regressive and economically damaging “caaahbon” tax, they have to wean middle and Left voters away from climate millenarianism. Addressing the other side of the climate cult (feral deniers) just reinforces the religious divide.
WTF are you talking about Frank Campbell? I speak several varieties of economics, marxian included, and I still have not the faintest idea what planet you are trying to reach us from. Old school Trot? or just pure bitterness and bile? or what? Unimpressed.
I don’t like Gillard but really and truly the losers in that “protest” take the biscuit for stupidity/
The morons all paid GST on their bus tickets, their clothing, their shoes, their petrol, their accommodation, their dine out meals – in one day they paid more GST than they will ever pay on a carbon tax unless like the dopey Angry Anderson they are pretty rich.
What he was doing there I don’t know but he used to do good things for the poor and downtrodden, most of it environmentally friendly.
Which party made them pay that GST on everything yesterday? Why Abbott’s party of course.
Don’t the dingbats realise how stupid they look.
Sheesh, placards holding up Howards hands with blood dripping off them after he started two wars that have now killed over 1 million people is one thing, but over a bloody little tax to save our environment?
Stupid twits.
What do they want? More pollution. When do they want it? Now it would seem.
So how many actually turned up at Cory Bernardi’s rallies? 400 in melbourne, 400 in Brisbane according to Mr Benardi’s mouthpiece at Menzies House (30 according to an anonymous commenter). Was it 3000 trucked in to Canberra (apparently, some were from Brisbane. Why didn’t they attend the Brisbane rally?)? The Curious Snail has nothing about the rally (only a few paragraphs about the Canberran one), so can one assume it was, as expected, a fizzer?
Love the picture. Tony, Bronwyn, Sophie, what a crowd. Love also the determination of most ABC journos not to mention Pauline Hanson’s presence at the rally. Denying her oxygen or the usual timid ABC “neutrality”? Tony Abbott is starting to spin the wheels for my money
They’re obviously anti-apostrophes, too. But pro-Americanized spelling.
They’re a weird mob.
The figures for attendance at the rally vary wildly. Yesterday some claimed 3000, others 2000. By last night the numbers seem to have been revised, with a few different media reports saying about 1000. Whatever the numbers, they were beaten by the 12000 signatures on a pro-tax petition delivered to Greg Combet yesterday morning.
ABC Victoria radio talkback last night was divided between those who saw fit to repeat the slogan- exclusively male – and those who were horrified, both male and female. The mis-step might be that many Liberal-voting women will see this as beyond the pale, or at the very least a foolhardy decision.
Apparently the AFP estimated the Canberra crowd at 1500. I saw in the heraldsun the crowd a week earlier as about 200. On the same day a pro carbon tax rally by GetUp got an estimated 8000 in Melbourne.
Frank C. I found Howards speech grating and some words very odd , PAP ooooA for example ie Papua. His imitation of a braying donkey when caught out by the likes of Kerry on the old 7.30 report. Your dislike of our PM seems more along the lines of a liberal theme rather than any resentment about her voice. If its genuine you obviously don,t go out much and socialise with fellow Australians.
Watching the coverage of the ‘protest’ (not grass roots but organised by shock jocks for their own amusement) was to watch Abbott knife the middle ground voters especially women. Combet deftly drove the point in. can’t wait to see how the polls look after that debacle
Well said Marilyn! I don’t recall this amount of invective when Howard back tracked on his ‘never ever’ GST or whatever it was. Did Alan Jones organise buses to Canberra then?
Well I’m no fan of the egregiously right-of-centre Gillard and I found it repulsively misogynistic and also homophobic
Homophobic Fran?
What….. no effigy of the PM burned?
No swastika tattooed on her forehead on that placard, I see.
How tame……
Well it was either sexist, intolerant ,xenophobic, homophobic, islamophobic, racist or bigoted.
She just got momentarily confused with choice Phen….
Yes Phen … the allusion is to rape in male prisons, especially in a US context.
What “allusion” is to “rape in male prisons, especially in a US context”, Fran?
And why would “rape in male prisons, especially in a US context” be “also homophobic”?
Is the routine raping of female prisoners in Iranian prisons also ‘heterophobic’, Fran?
http://www.iran-bulletin.org/women/RAPE.html
Is the routine clitorectomising of Muslim female children ‘bitchophobia’, Fran?
What has any of this typically ‘Fran-leftist-drivel’ got to do with an anti-carbon tax rally in front of Parliament House?
Oh Fran….you can also use it in football terms i.e Richmond are Carlton’s round 1 Bitches.
JamesK, you seem to be missing the point. No surprise there given your frequent resort to invective over debate.
Moderate and swinging voters are repulsed by displays of extremism. Abbott needs those voters and his ill-advised and ill-considered appearance at that wingnut rally just burned votes.
Jamesk is off his medicine again and Frank has over dosed on his. The hinges are loosening. Keep on rocking Tony.
Did i hear right about Sloppy saying he would have been at the witch burning party but had business to do ?
I see the piercingly perceptive Barry 09 strikes yet again!
Smearing seems to be the only ‘argument’ leftists are capable of putting forward.
If people who disagree with ‘em aren’t “either sexist, intolerant ,xenophobic, homophobic, islamophobic, racist or bigoted” then we’re mad…….
Mad or bad! ….. wow!…….. what awesome intellects you leftist drones have……..
you left out ‘utterly evil’ comrade K
