Trev,
I was interested this morning by a comment from Kieran Perkins about swimmers when he was in his prime (the nineties).
From the SMH:
Perkins, a former board member of Swimming Australia, said the drinking culture was not new. There had been cases of swimmers waking up on beaches unaware of how they got there, and even arrests for minor indiscretions, he said.
Oooohhhh.
Who hasn’t at least once when they’re young got so shit faced they woke up somewhere not remembering exactly how they got there? It’s happened for decades.
Now apparently our swimmers aren’t allowed to even place photos of themselves on Facebook where they are seen to be partying and SHOCK, HORROR holding an alcoholic beverage. Give me a break. These people display a level of discipline I could only dream of. Can’t they drink heavily once in a while?! Great piece Trev!
Benjamin, yes they can drink heavily once in a while, yes they can get so shit-faced they wake up not knowing how they got there, but what they can’t do is smash someone in the face so that hospital treatment is required. Or, to put it another way, yes they can smash someone in the face so that hospital treatment is required, but then they must face the consequences.
