McClellan says
- he hopes his book will help moderate the partisanship of Washington
- Washington has become immersed in a permanent campaign culture and this discourages honest dialogues between the government and the people
- Bush campaign decided to ’shade the truth’ on Iraq
- because of campaign culture, the question was how to sell the war and WMD was chosen as the best way of doing that
- he (and by implication Americans in general) was wrong to give the administration the benefit of the doubt on Iraq
- compartmentalisation and secrecy in the White House was a big problem
Extraordinary stuff.
