Obama’s remarkable popularity

Over the coming week, it will be interesting to see if the bounce continues. It is possible that Obama could open an even bigger lead and move above the 50% level of support. That would be significant both in the context of this campaign and historically. Since Abraham Lincoln was elected as the first Republican President in 1860, the only Democrats to win the White House with a majority of the popular vote have been Franklin D. Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Jimmy Carter.

An amazing stat, only three Democrat presidents got a majority of the popular vote.

    Hi Trevor – great post. I couldn’t agree more, the way Obama is going they won’t need an election. It is truly fascinating to see how his PR machine is grinding out exposure. His over whelming popularity abroad though is what’s even more surprising. It’s going to be an interesting race.
