People in NSW think there is a lot wrong with this State and the current government is held in well-deserved contempt by large numbers of people.
But when you ask them what is wrong, the lack of a V8 car race in Sydney Olympic Park is not the first thing most of them mention (especially those squeezed into crowded trains or stalled on Sydney’s congested roads).
So, whatever possessed Nathan Rees, who promised to end the spin, to kick off his premiership with this ludicrous announcement? Perhaps there is just no other good news. But to do it on the same day as a report is released that points to a $30 million shortfall at Westmead Children’s Hospital simply beggars belief. And to refuse to provide evidentiary support for his bold claims of a $100 million benefit? Well, excuse me for being a tad cynical.
Most people will want to give Rees the benefit of the doubt but too many disasters like yesterday and he will have people moaning about the good old days when Morris Iemma was Premier (I’m exaggerating, of course).
