Biden won because he stuck to his strategy of attacking McCain not Palin and he attacked McCain by linking him to Bush. Biden was helped by the fact that he had so much more to say. Palin got through but she ducked plenty of questions and her answers were mostly sound bites. Her whinges about the media didn’t do her any good.
A CNN flash poll gave it to Biden by 51 to 36, a substantial margin and very slightly bigger than the 51 to 38 margin that the same poll gave the result to Obama in last week’s debate. A national CBS poll of the uncommitted gave it to Biden by 46 to 21 with a further 33 percent saying it was a tie.
The upshot is that the momentum stays with Obama.
