Presidential polls stable, Palin and McCain’s brother a little less so

There has been a slight tightening in the national polls over the last 24 hours. The realclearpolitics average has Obama leading by 7.4%, pollster also by 7.4%, fivethirtyeight by 6%, and TPM at 6.3%. Fivethirtyeight also has the livelihood of an Obama victory at 96.7%.

Meanwhile, more weird stuff from the growing Palin file. She annoyed McCain camp officials by bringing up her wardrobe, ensuring the negative comments continued for another day:

Palin denounced talks of her wardrobe as “ridiculous” and declared emphatically: “Those clothes, they are not my property.”

“Just like the lighting and the staging and everything else that the RNC purchased, I’m not taking them with me,” she said at a rally in Tampa, Florida.

A senior McCain adviser told CNN that those comments “were not the remarks we sent to her plane.” Palin did not discuss the wardrobe story at her rally in Kissimmee, Florida, later in the day.

There are also more reports of division between the Palin and McCain camp, with some McCain staffers apparently labeling her a ‘diva’:

The Alaska Governor’s supporters accused McCain strategist Steve Schmidt and senior aide Nicolle Wallace of blaming Palin for the failure of the campaign.

“These people are going to try and shred her after the campaign to divert blame from themselves,” a McCain insider was quote by Politico as saying.

When asked to comment on the Politico story by AFP, Wallace said in an email: “I have no comment other than what’s in the story, if people wish to throw me under the bus, my personal belief is that the graceful thing to do is to lie there.”

Later Saturday, Politico quoted McCain advisers reacting angrily to the report, branding Palin a “diva.”

And again. A McCain campaign source on CNN:

“She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone,” said this McCain adviser, “she does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else. Also she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: divas trust only unto themselves as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom.”

Meanwhile, Joe McCain, brother of John, seems to have been caught out ringing 9-1-1 to complain about a traffic jam. The following clip also captures his own terribly self-important phone message.

I’m not exactly sure why Joe McCain’s 911 call is newsworthy…
