Trevor, a quick thank-you for providing the live blog. While nothing’s quite the same as actually being there, this always gives an impression of what you and your co-conspirators found interesting.

I get the feeling that, like so many other conferences, this one had a fair proportion of employee-journalists who are wanting someone else to train them in what to do. What they don’t seem to “get” is that we’re all making it up as we go along, and the best approach is the do a little learnin’ on their own.

If they wait for their current employer to train them, well, it won’t happen. Employers, if they manage to survive the rapidly-approaching shakeout of news organisations, will just hire people who already have the skills — quicker than training people who’ve demonstrated that they can’t explore new skills without someone showing them the way.

Hey I was in that Conference today, I only wish I was goofing around on the nets too.
Really that Telstra Guy. PUhlEASE.
Some really interesting stuff, until that guy, then I lost a whole lot of energy that expended on anxiety and tension.
I really wanted to stand up and call to the room, “everything that Telstra introduce is redundant”.
“get voip, you don’t have to pay Telstra shit”
That’s all. Besides that, some good stuff. I just wish I had my lap top.
