As widely reported, but over-shadowed by other scandals and fiascos, was Stephen Conroy’s decision to censor the internet more extensively than previously thought. This decision is likely to alienate a large swag of voters who are otherwise favourable to Labor.
Inquisitr: “The Australian Minister for Censorship has today confirmed what I’ve been reporting for nearly two years: online adult games including Second Life will be banned in Australia.”
SMH: “The Federal Government has now set its sights on gamers, promising to use its internet censorship regime to block websites hosting and selling video games that are not suitable for 15 year olds.”

Fortunately, this will never see the light of day in the current parliament. The Greens will never support any internet censorhip and even if it may appeal to the Coalition’s socially conservative base, they will presumably block it out of course in the Senate. There is no way that this bit of legislation would be used as a double D trigger when there are plenty of other options available, so the Colation won’t need to roll-over at the last minute (alla the alco-pops bill).
Of course a popular (according to the polls) Government that has blocking EBay and Amazon on their legaslative agenda is scary and the mind boggles as to why Conroy is still in a job that he clearly has no idea about.
