Trevor Cook
I am a Sydney-based consultant who has advised many Australian organisations during the past 12 years on social media, public affairs, issues management and employee communications. From 1996 to 2007, I worked full-time at Jackson Wells.
I started blogging in November 2003 and was the first PR professional in Australia to actively engage in the world of social media (if you don’t think this claim is correct please let me know). I attended Bloggercon at Stanford in November 2004, Blogtalk Downunder in Sydney in May 2005 and regularly attend and address social media events.
In July 2008 I began studying for a doctorate in politics at the University of Sydney. My thesis topic involves an examination of the relationship between social democratic parties and unions in the era of globalisation and the implications of these changing relationships for the protection of vulnerable workers.
I write regularly for Crikey’s subscriber email on ‘spin’ and for ABC Unleashed on political and social issues. I worked in government at a senior level in Canberra for nearly a decade, as an adviser for ALP Ministers and an SES officer in Industrial Relations, and I have a Bachelor of Economics (honours) also from the University of Sydney.
I am a long-time season ticket holder at Kogarah, home of the incomparable St George Dragons and my favourite authors include: Orwell, Waugh, Greene, Fitzgerald, Joyce, McGahern. My favourite bookshop is City Lights in San Francisco.
