Dear Colleagues,

After almost 23 years in the ABC, I’ve decided that the time is right to leave my job and head for the next adventure.

For the past few months I’ve been pondering the right time to go and although such decisions are never easy, I believe now is the right time to move on and make room for the next generation.

Seeing ABC Radio finish 2008 with record audience figures has given me an enormous sense of pride and accomplishment. When I first moved to an executive position in December 1996, Radio was a very different place. We were 5 radio networks and our online services were rudimentary. Now, we can boast extensive and innovative online services, 3 internet stations which are about to go digital, delivery to mobile phones, magazines, a world-beating podcast service, cross platform content and radio across the country which engages more Australians than ever before.

I remain absolutely passionate about the medium and know that many of you share that passion. ABC radio matters – not just when communities are in distress – but for companionship, information and entertainment during our audiences’ daily lives. I know you work hard to make the ABC a fundamental part of people’s lives.

Thank you to those of you who’ve worked so hard and given your support to our vision for ABC Radio. I wish you all the best for the future and a rousingly successful 2009.

Very best wishes,
Sue
