P_CraigNot only is Jasper Jones author Craig Silvey longlisted for the Miles Franklin Award, he’s up for Cleo Bachelor of the Year! Go and vote for the lovely and talented (and yes, cute) Mr Silvey here. I chaired a panel with Craig and Eleanor Catton at the recent Perth Writers Festival, and remember one middle-aged lady in a purple jumper being very gushy to him at audience question time. Craig was smooth and charming (he must be used to it).

But seriously, I did get the chance to hang out with him a bit at the Cottonmouth event and we had quite a serious conversation about the creative impulse and the insularity that can come with writing, and how this can make relationships difficult, not to mention the travel involved if you’re successful like Craig.

But you guys like a challenge, don’t you?
