Bird of the Week: Pilatus PC-21 at Alice Springs, June 2018

Thanks to my mate Mitch Chip Childs over at the Aviators of Alice Springs Facebook page for the tip that a couple of brand spanking new Pilatus PC-21s would be passing through Alice Springs this morning en-route from their base in Switzerland to the RAAF Roulettes home at RAAF Base East Sale in Victoria.

I was lucky enough to catch a few minutes with one of the pilots on the ground at Alice Springs airport and he told me they’d been in the air for 36 hours (with stops) so far. These are numbers 17 and 18 that will add to the current 16 PC-21s in the Roulettes’ contingent of new generation trainers—they’ll end up with 48 in total.

I can’t wait until the RAAF Roulettes bring these back to Alice Springs to do a fly-over – here are some pics of mine when I last caught up with the Roulettes (flying the equally beautiful Pilatus PC-9/A) in November 2010.
