My family’s journey is but one of thousands of similar travels and travails undertaken by Stolen Generations’ members and their descendants. I follow in the footsteps of my grandparents – Bessie and Joe Senior; my father – Joe, and through the determined efforts of my mother, Dorothy, to ensure my father was reunited with his/our family. It is because of them – all gone now - that I have been able to undertake my journey, to work out where ‘home’ is for me.

I would like to acknowledge the absolute horrors that have occurred within the Don Dale Correctional Facility. I, like everyone who saw the footage this week, was shocked and appalled by the mistreatment of children at the detention centre. Every child in our justice system must be treated with humanity and respect at all times. Nigel Scullion, Garma Festival, 30 July 2016
My two cents worth? When it comes to alcohol we should be helping troubled individuals instead of focusing on locking us all out or locking them up.
Any rights they would have previously enjoyed under the Land Rights Act to “free, prior and informed consent” about sub-leases would no longer apply. “Bolkkime ngarri-bekkan manekke kun-wok!”-“That’s the first time we have heard/understood this information.”
When we see dangerously naïve or misguided non-Aboriginal crusaders running around hurling emotional Molotov cocktails willy nilly into the flammable undergrowth of community perceptions and politics, I believe it is sometimes necessary to turn the fire prevention hoses onto them.
