Virgin Blue and Delta Airlines are seeking regulatory approval to fly the Pacific united, no not that United, but together.
But will the two airlines be allowed to get together as closely, if not closer, than Qantas and American Airlines get as members of the oneworld alliance?
Delta is the world’s largest airline. Like V Australia, it flies Boeing 777s on the trans Pacific market it entered last Friday.
The merits of the plan for Virgin Blue and Delta shareholders are obvious, if not urgent. But selling what would be an operational merger between them in terms of Australia and the US will most likely become another story.
