Another part of the jigsaw puzzle that is the unnamed Singapore Airlines low cost medium to long haul brand has been revealed with news that the initial fleet will use some of its ‘old’ Boeing 777-200s.

This just leaves the name, route structure and product offerings to be announced in coming months before a date in 2012 is named for the first flights.

The original 777-200 which Singapore Airlines first introduced in 1997 is a very capable aircraft even though shaded today by the 777-300ER.

The word ‘initial’ is however one that will keep competitors wondering what is really coming at them over the horizon, as well as whether or not there is any plan to co-ordinate its activities with the single aisle operators of Tiger Airways, which is still grounded as dangerously unsafe in Australia and in which Singapore Airlines has reduced its stake to under 33 per cent.
