Taped up and ready to assemble, 787-9 section at Everett: Spirit flickr account

It’s been a long time coming, but the first really large part of the Dreamliner 787-9 variant, a forward fuselage section, has arrived at the final assembly plant in Everett north of Seattle.

The photo above was posted on the Spirit AeroSystems flicker album.

The local newspaper, The Herald Everett, is a must read for Boeing watchers, and carried this detailed wrap of progress on the second and larger version of the 787 Dreamliner family early in the week.

When Air New Zealand, the launch customer for the -9, starts putting a fleet of them into service next year it is widely expected they will be seen on trans Tasman routes as the airline builds up service familiarity prior to using the type on longer range flights.
