Andrew Bolt apparently thinks that the following two quotes are incongruent – “Twenty years or 1000? One of these “experts” is hopelessly wrong”:
Andy Pitman: If we could stop emissions tomorrow we would still have 20 to 30 years of warming ahead of us because of inertia of the system.
Tim Flannery: If the world as a whole cut all emissions tomorrow the average temperature of the planet is not going to drop in several hundred years, perhaps as much as a thousand years.
Does Andrew not understand what “inertia” means? Those two statements are in no way contradictory.
I inadvertently heard – via an accidental button press on the radio, honestly – one of the other shameless hacks (Chris Smith, I believe) relating this to his listeners with a long list of “greats”, culminating in the word “grandchildren” and the declaration that they’re all this is going to affect and taking phone calls from listeners congratulating each other on how the whole global warming SHAM had been BLOWN WIDE OPEN.
Seriously, it’s like a parade of stupidity.
(Also, check out the easy way these people throw around “billions” and “trillions” based on nothing more than their most extreme fantasies.)
PS: Steve Price on naming “reputable” scientists who think humans are having no effect on the climate, contrary to what the Prime Minister claimed: “you’ve only got to name one, Andrew”. Really? Is that sufficient? Shouldn’t he be able to name ten?
